St. Peter - Ording

St.Peter - Ording is a resort town on
the North Sea. It is a place that is
full of surprises.

The first surprise was that they charge
you to get to the beach. Luckily it
was the off season, so it only cost
2 Marks (about $1). Still, I was
surprised because in California, it is
illegal to charge people for beach
access.

Also, there is a lovely wetland just
before the beach (that is why the
bridge is there) and it is
impossible to sneak onto the beach
by crossing the wetland. (I tried) ^_^

If you want, you can rent one of
these beach chairs. I think they
are common on many beaches in
Europe.

Because of the big tidal flux on
this part of the North Sea Coast,
they built these houses on stilts.
The smaller one in front is the
public toilet.

The water was about 1 Km away. That
was the second surprise. Here
is a photo of the public toilet
building that I took about half
way to the water.

There were also some lovely dunes.
I don't know if you can tell from
the picture, but it was very windy.

At first I thought this might be
some sort of alien life form,
but it turned out to be a big
jelly fish. This was the third
surprise.
