During the Kieler Woche, some friends
and I took a ride on a sailboat. This
is the Sophia Theresa out of Stralsung.
|
|
|
The Sophia Theresa is a traditional
net fishing sailboat of the type that
were common on the German coast of the
Baltic Sea for hundreds of years.
Called a "Zeesboot" in the local
Plattdeutsch dialect, the shallow
draft and the redish-brown sails
are very distinctive.

This is the capitan of the ship,
his name is Eckhart. He's also
the owner of the Sophia Theresa
and runs sailboat tours around
the island Rugen. Check him out
if your ever in Stralsund.

|
|
The coolest thing about the trip
was that whoever wanted to, could
steer the ship.
Here I am trying to look cool at
the helm.

Here's Dave, Pete's friend from
England.
