I went to München on the first weekend
in December to visit my Tante (aunt) Ilse.
Here we are in the subway station, waiting
for the train.
|
|
|
If you happen to be near the town hall in
München at 11 AM, you will see lots
of people (tourists) looking into the
air.
At 11 o'clock, the clockworks on the tower
play chimes and the statues dance around.

|
For lunch, we had a delicious German
specialty. Pancake Soup!
My aunt told me that this was one of
my grandfather's favorite dishes.

It might look like I accidentally stumbled
into a machine shop, but this is
actually the famous Deutsche Museum.
If you have ever wanted to run around
a machine shop and touch all the drill
presses, the Deutsche Museum is the place
for you.
Not like other museums, the guards here don't
care if you touch the drill presses.

Actually, the Deutsche Museum has lots
of really cool displays on all sorts
of technical subjects. From cars, planes,
and trains, to mining and hydrology, to
the manufacture of paper, glass, or
computer chips, they have it all at the
Deutsche Museum.
This photo shows a big iron ball
floating in a giant magnetic field.

I had dinner that evening with my
aunt and her best friend Mrs. Sahwai.

|
Here's a picture of us after dessert.

That evening we went to the theater.
There was a special Advent show, and
many of the local people arrived in
their best Bavarian dresses and suits.
The play was in Bavarian dialect, so I
couldn't understand a word, but it was
still pretty interesting... Sort of.
What I remember most, was how hard the
wooden seats were. ^_^

|
|
The next day we went to the Music Museum.
This is a giant African drum. It's so
huge, that they mounted it on wheels
just like a cannon!
The guards at the Music Museum would not
let me play it.
|
|
|
They had a nice concert at the Museum while
we were there. The concert was performed
by an all flute ensemble. They were very
good and played a wide variety of music.

If you are ever in the main train station
in München, be sure to visit Mc Clean.
No, it's not a laundry mat.
No, it's not a restaurant chain.
It's a pay toilet place! And, true to it's
name, the toilets were really, really,
really clean.
