This is the lovely hotel we stayed at in Lund.
The other people from the lab who came
on this trip were: Christine, Silvia, Peter,
Nick, Silki, Oliver, and Katja. Everyone
was wonderful and we all had a great time.

in Lund. (The phone inside was modern.)

This is the massive cathedral in Lund. It was
begun around 1100, and is said to be a fine
example of the Romanesque style.

This is the beautiful medieval astronomic clock
in the cathedral. It plays every day at noon
and 3. The little figures come out and move
around.

There is a wonderful outdoor museum on Lund
that features about 30 original historic
buildings, moved here from all over Sweden.
The museum was founded in 1882 by a guy
named Karlin.
In this photo, from foreground back, are:
1500's - loft house.
1652 - wooden church.
1820's - summer pavilion.

The Dagstorp Stone
If you look closely, you will see that
this stone consists of a hundred bits
and more. Karlin had someone put them
all together. A farmer had blown up the
stone since it was in his way. The
inscription reads: "Sigsmund raised this
stone in memory of his father Klakkr."

|
The Skarby Stone
Once stood in a meadow in the parish of
Skarby. The inscription reads "Ka-Ulfr
and Autir raised this stone in memory
of their brother Tome, who owned the
farm of Gudis Snape." A lion-like beast
was carved to guard the memory of Tome.

In contrast to the current peace Sweden enjoys,
she does have a violent past.
The reformation was preceded by civil war
in Denmark. The decapitated skulls are
connected with a peasants revolt, which
in 1525 ended with a battle at Lund where
Fredrick I was victorious. The army even went
into Lund to continue the killing of those
who fled. The soldiers even dragged people out
of the Cathedral where they had sought
shelter. Approximately 1500 people perished
in the massacre. The heads of the executed
were nailed onto poles to frighten rebellious
sympathizers.
(Some of the skulls in the display case
still had nails through them.)
