Life in San Diego

One Christmas tradition in Ocean Beach is
the Ocean Beach Christmas tree! The big
tree is usually decorated by local
elementary school students.

Crispy Cream Donuts opened a drive-through
in San Diego. Everyone seems to think that
Crispy Cream is great, but I didn't think
it was all that good.

Oh yeah, Americans love drive throughs.

One of the things I was shocked to see when
I came to San Diego was the self-checkout.

This is where the customers scan their own
barcodes and pay for the stuff themselves
by credit card.

Here Paul is demonstrating at Home Depot.

One if the cool things about Christmas
in the states is the way people decorate
their houses with lights.

Eurpoeans tend to find this tacky, but
I kind of like it. Of course, I am not
a good judge of tacky.

Paul and I were driving down the freeway,
when Paul suddenly noticed we were being
followed by the police.

"So, they finally caught up with you.",
I said to Paul.

There were at least 12 police cars behind
us, all with lights flashing and sirens
blaring. In this photo, I can see 7 or 8.

It turns out that the police were not
following Paul after all, but this
tourist trolly.

A man with a gun had highjacked the
trolly. Later, on the news, they said
the chase lasted about 1 hour and
reached speeds of up to 30 mph.
