One of the things I missed most about San Diego
was the food. For example the delicious California
Burrito from Santana's drive-thu.

The best burgers in Ocean Beach can be had at
Hodad's on Newport Blvd. If you're ever there
you have to order a shake. Thick and creamy
like a shake ought to be.

Ortega's is one of the excellent Mexican places
in Ocean Beach. Jill and I are here enjoying a
lovely breakfast.

I had the machaca for breakfast.

|
Jill and I also had Mexican coffee. That's not
a cigarrette butt floating in there, it's a
cinnimin stick!

|
The other most excellent Mexican restaurant in
Ocean Beach is Ranch Food's on Sunset Cliffs
(Which used to be called Defoe - but only OB
locals know that.)

Chicken Mole is absolutely delicious. One of the
main ingredients in mole sauce is chocolate, that's
what makes it so dark and savory.
Horchata is a sweet rice drink that tastes better
than it sounds.

Every morning I would go down Newport Blvd. to
Jungle Java for a cafe late and a peanut-butter
cup cookie.

San Diego is also a great place for
Vietnamese food. The barbeque pork with
broken rice and shredded pork bits topped
off with a fried egg is absolutely one
of the best things you can eat. Really.
The drink in the background is called
three-color bean drink. It's typically
served with ice and condensed mild. This
is another drink that tastes better than it
sounds.
